This first AAF will be co-sponsored University of Iowa, the  International Program and the UI African Studies Program. This AAF Forum is the first of its kind, gathering experts from academia and government to discuss the real causes of Africa's problems.
This is the first Forum were talented African Scholars meet to talk about the true problems of Africa with the intention of informing foreign institutions and all those interested in helping Africa. The organizers noticed that many foreign institutions are not targeting the real problems in Africa and that many generally regard Africa as the continent of negative extremes (war, conflicts, poverty, hunger, et cetera) and, therefore, do not propose objective solutions. The Forum also aims to change the image of Africa and to help foreign institution send money to real Africans to resolve real problems.

Among the speakers are world ranked intellectuals and in order to meet the objectives of the Forum, each presentation will be published in an edited book titled: Africa by Africans: The Real Problems of Africa -- Through African Eyes.
